Ngalyod the Rainbow Serpent

Markings:
bears artist's name, language group, area and a description of Ngalyod on label on the reverse, The label on the reverse reads in part: 'Ngalyod...is often depicted with a feathered headdress, similar to those worn by Aboriginals in ceremonies honouring Ngalyod. There is a bony protuberance on his chest so that he can easily burrow a passage under the earth, and a spike on his back also helps him to dig. His face sometimes resembles that of a kangaroo, a buffalo or a crocodile. His body and tail are often those of a crocodile, but he can change shape at will.'
